Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add my agency's protocols?

You can add protocols two ways: - Manually — tap "+" on the Protocols tab → "Add Protocol Manually," and fill in the title, category, age group, and content yourself. - From a PDF — tap "+" → "Import from PDF," choose a PDF of your agency's protocol book, and ProtoQuick will use AI to automatically split it into individual, searchable protocols. This requires your own Anthropic API key (see below).

What is the Anthropic API key, and do I need one?

PDF import uses Anthropic's AI (Claude) to read and split your protocol document. This feature requires your own free API key from console.anthropic.com, entered in the app's Settings tab. You are billed directly by Anthropic based on usage — ProtoQuick has no subscription fee for this feature.

Don't have a key yet? Tap "Try a Demo Import" on the Import from PDF screen to see exactly how the feature works using sample data, no key required.

Is my data backed up if I get a new phone?

Yes, as long as you're signed into iCloud. ProtoQuick syncs your protocols, notes, code logs, and certifications privately through your own iCloud account. Sign into the same Apple ID on a new device and your vault reappears automatically. If you're not signed into iCloud, your data stays local to that device only — check Settings in the app to confirm your sync status.

How does certification expiration tracking work?

Add a certification (name, issuing organization, expiration date) under the Certs tab. ProtoQuick will send a local notification starting 60 days before it expires, and will continue reminding you — including after it expires — until you update the expiration date.

Can I share protocols with another medic?

Yes. On the Protocols tab, tap "+" → "Share Protocols…" to export a file you can send via AirDrop, Messages, or email. The recipient doesn't need an Anthropic API key or any account to import it — just ProtoQuick installed.

Is ProtoQuick a substitute for my agency's official protocols?

No. ProtoQuick is a personal reference and organizational tool. You are responsible for verifying that any protocol, dosage, or clinical information stored in the app is accurate and matches your agency's current, approved guidance.
